Questions about dog breeds and their original purposes?
At what stage does original function for a dog become obsolete?is it when mainstream demand is gone, when public perception changes, when there is no good use for it...If a dogs main function changes, how easy or difficult is it to switch a dog from one task to another? If the dog is left without a main purpose... is its existence solely dependent on how good of a companion pet it makes then? Do the goals of the breeders then differ to the goals set out in the breed standard by the creators? if that happens can the dog really claim to be from the original breed?

Question about dog breeds?
Australian Collie is that a type of breed.... ? Or is that a mutt name for Border Collie and Australian Shepherd....?

Need some advice and answers about dog breeds?
OK i'm 13 and i LUV dogs i really do i think they're wonderful, at the moment my family has 2 small female dogs 2 and 13 years old and they're both very cute and lovable. I've been talking to my Mum about getting my own dog and I have an idea of what breed I want to get so I have a list of a couple of breeds I like but I need some advice and explanations about what the breed is like. So here's the list Maltese, long haired chihuahua, yorkshire terrier there so cute and my aunt has 2 and they're lovely shytzu or any other small dog preferably fluffy but as long as they don't malt because one of our dogs is notorious for leaving lots of golden hairs all over the house and my mum can't stand it. I'd really appreciate any help if you could just explain maybe if they malt, if they bark, if they bite, if they can be really antisocial, how much they usually cost in the UK and which one you think would be more suitable. If you read all that thanks cos I know its long and also I think the dog would probably have to be a female because our other 2 are females thanks in advance for any help i forgot to mention pomeranians as well they're very cute and also to the person who said make one of the family dogs your own one of the dogs is my mums and one of the dogs belongs to my sister so thats not really an option

Questions about dog breeds and dog training.?
I need help choosing the right dog, I was thinking of getting either a Golden Retriever, Border Collie, a Samoyed, a German Shepherd, a Husky or an American Eskimo Dog.I will probably be living in a big apartment or a 2 story house with a backyard.I will have to go to school and of course sleep daily, except on weekends. The question about dog training I had was, I did many researches and followed many of the famous dog trainers videos such as Zak George, and I've learned how he trains his dogs, but right now I found a new way to train a dog on this other website but it looks cruel This is the website dogbreedinfo.com topdogrules.htm I was really confused whether I want to follow the really kind and nice Zak George way Connecting with your dog and teaching it tricks and being it's friend or follow the cruel way, It's pretty confusing, because I wouldn't really like my dog to be the leader and control me or growl at me or bite me anytime he wants.I'd like to know what breed of dogs you have and how you trained them, the nice proper way with good treatment or a pack leader way?I honestly want a safe dog, that will probably not bite, yes people I will give him lots of space to play, the backyard will be huge, and I'll take him for walks often and exercise him lots daily.I also have the responsibility of taking care of him, I've read alot about dogs, but first time for me coming across the pack leader way.Dani stated that a Golden Retriever was trained the pack leader way, but does it acutally HAVE to be that way, I've heard Golden Retrievers are really kind.Thanks. I am sorry if I was a bit unclear, I am currently living in a big apartment No backyard which is way inappropriate for a dog I am going to move to a bigger apartment with a big backyard and lots of space for the dog, I will exercise him regularly, and play with him alot, I am pretty sure he can sleep in the big apartment and play in the backyard even if it is a large dog .The only problem is, I might have to leave them for a few hours due to school.

A hypothetical question about dog breeding.?
Could you cross a Mastiff and Chihuahua? I mean if it was a male Chihuahua and a female Mastiff and the female mastiff was artificially inseminated so you get over the physical size difference. would you get live puppy? And if so what would they look like?

Needs help about dog breeding!?

Information about Dog Breeds? (People Who Compete Or Train Please Reply!!!)?
I have been training dogs for four years in agility, obedience, rally, and conformation. I love dogs so much and I started training with a " puppy mill" long haired dachshund. I learned about training when I started to work with strays at shelters and then started my own full grown dachshund that I had not molded when she was young for dog training which was an obstacle for us.Now, my dachshund has gotten her RAE in Rally, has mastered agility Okay, we are still working on the weaves but besides that she loves it and enters in the state agility teams , I have her working on open and utility She has learned the exercises but she needs to learn that she is suppose to hold the dumbbell not only at home but in all places , and she is not a conformation dog so she is unable to show She also can't show in showmanship because of bone defects that make it almost impossible against the other dogs in her level. I am mainly working with Boxers and Dachshunds but I want to move up a level with a new dog. Breeds I have worked with Dachshund RAE Rally Title, Agility Titles And Agility Teams, Open Utility Obedience, ShowmanshipBoxer Performance handler for a Boxer Kennel and also a Conformation Handler. Has never NQ with Boxers.Pembroke Welsh Corgi Has handled in agility quite often,Collies Is working with them in Rally, Therapy, and Basic Obedience I will admit that Collies are a little sensitive for my taste but then again I am working with rescue dogs that have been severely abused. Rat Terriers Has trained for agility and basic obedience for owners.Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Has fully trained for competitive novice and for conformation Sadly some idiot shaved the dog's ears so she had to be retired to a companion. I want a super high energy dog that wants to do everything with me. I'm very active and I am willing to throw balls and run agility all day. Also, I am not worried about the dog being bored since I plan to do a lot of fun training and such. I also, was wondering about how the dogs I list do in conformation and how they do in general training? Do you think I could work with any of these breeds?I have a small list of dogs that I am thinking of but I'm still Australian Shepherd They do great performance and I like their personality but I also don't feel as much as a challenge with them and they are so common. Doberman Pinscher I love how they are with conformation and Dobermans seem to be great workers. I do hear though that they aren't as playful and active from many people. Border Collie I love this breed and their high energy. They are amazing with performance but I was wondering about conformation? I mean I haven't seen once a border collie win best in show or group? Boxer I love this clown of a breed and how they can learn quickly but they act like they have ADHD No offense was meant I also like their energy flow. Vizla I have heard a lot about this breed and that they have nice amount of energy and are good working dogs but I do not see them as much so it is hard for me to research about them. People are telling me to not even look at this breed because they will drive anyone up a wall but I was just curious.THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR READING THIS AND IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS I'LL BE ON STANDBY TO ANSWER THEM. Also, I will pick a best answer so it won't go into the voting mess.

What should I know about dog breeding before I start.?
My big question is, how often do you breed the female.

How much do you know about DOG BREEDS? Let's play a game?
Just for fun. I'm kind of bored. I'll present a dog breed name and you identify which of the two pictures presented matches the name. Then state what the other dog's breed is. You up for the challenge? I'll pick best answer to the first one who gets it all correct. Question about dog breeding?
First of all if you have anything negative to say about me breeding my dogs then don't waste your time in answering this I have a 8 month old female German shorthaired pointer and I obviously know she is too young to breed. I don't plan on breeding her until she's 2. But in the mean time I'm trying to get all of the information I can get and doing every possible bit of research. My dogs will be tested for any genetic problems, along with hips and eyes and anything else the vet reccomends My male is a 5 yr old akc shorthaired pointer. I know that most breeders don't take there pups to the vet for tail docking, dew claw removal or for vaccines and dewormer. So what do they use for shots? And for dewormer? I've talked to a couple breeders who say the pups need to be wormed at 2, 4, 6 and sometimes 8 weeks of age. What is safe for puppies at that young of an age??Please don't judge me, my dog is dual registered and the best quality and amazing temperament and she has an excellent nose My male is the same way as well I just want honest answers on what to do I have a year and 4 months to get this all figured out and it's proving to be very difficult. I know how to whelp puppies and all that, I'm just concerned about the tails, dews, shots and deworming

Do Shelters Lie About Dog Breeds?
Is it a common practice for shelters to lie about the breed of the dogs they are trying to find homes for? I have frequently seen dogs that look like pitbulls being adopted out as some odd " hound" or " boxer" mix. It seems unethical for shelters and adoption groups to lie to potential dog owners who might bring home a banned animal to their apartment or home. I love my pitbull, but I knew exactly what I was getting into when I rescued him.For example, every dog in these links look like a pitbull mix to me. raleigh.craigslist.org pet 2119952346.htmlservices.wakegov.com adoptiongallery services.wakegov.com adoptiongallery services.wakegov.com adoptiongallery services.wakegov.com adoptiongallery You mean to tell me that the black dog with the big floppy ears actually looks like a boxer hound mix? I think not. And the issue is that once you take the dog to the vet, they will tell you the breed that they are going to list on their records. Often times it doesn't agree with what the shelter said. Then you are screwed when you have to show the vet records to prove the breed of your dog to an apartment complex.

Question about dog breeding - Yorkie Poos...?
A yorkie poo is made by breeding a yorkie and a poodle, BUT can I breed a yorkie poo by breeding a yorkie poo and a yorkie poo together? Or would this not be a yorkie poo? Thanks.Yeah, I'm a backyard breeder. Boo hoo. So does a yorkie poo a yorkie poo make a yorkie poo or not?
