Opinions on electric dog collars.?
I asked a question about a certain function on an electric dog collar, and got no helpful answers, just many people calling me bad person, and that I should shock myself with it.So, read this situation, then tell me your opinion. I recently got a dog, at first I had some trouble training him, basics as in house training, etc, but went to a few classes at Pet Smart and now he's even bell trained, haven't had an accident in the house in weeks. But I've noticed that he still has a tendency to growl and get a little nippy around my nine year old son and fifteen year old daughter. I went to a couple professional to get some advice, and at the first appointment, the trainer had his two german shepards, sitting next to him the next time, not whining, not jumping on us when we came in, not even barking. My husband asked if he could pet them, and the dogs didn't even approach him until they were given permission. This guy had his dogs trained like this for protection purposes, I didn't ask why, but I thought it would be amazing to have a dog that didn't jump on new people because I honestly hate that, and to have a dog that wouldn't run out into the yard until I gave him the command. So I kept going to see this guy, and its been working. At the first official appointment he gave us a choker collar for our dog, at first I said no, I've seen those things with the spikes that dig into the dogs skin when you pull it, and was 100 % against it. He then informed me that those type were completely wrong, and that the type of collar I would be using would basically be a slip knot, to keep the dog from pulling on the leash you give the dog a certain amount of leash, and he learns that when he tries to pull and go the way he wants, he can't. I was still hesitant thinking he would choke himself and die, but he actually showed us, on himslef how it works, it just prevents the dog from pulling. At the next appointment he informed us that we would be upgrading to an electric collar I felt the same as when he said that we would be using a choke collar, but gave him a chance to explain first. He started with " Now, i understand if your'e thinking that an electric collar is cruel, but were not going to be shocking him until his brain fries, this is used to bug him. " He told us that the electric collar is not a punishment for doing something wrong, its to bug him. Like if he won't give up one of your socks, on a low lever you click the 'nick' button, which lasts 1 10th of a second, and click it until he realizes, ' oh gosh, this is annoying, i'll just drop it and it will stop.' Knowing that, I wasn't as hesitant, but still it was shocking the little dog. But thinking back when he first introduced the choke collar, I knew this guy knew what he was doing and gave it chance. And before we left that night he told me that there are two buttons, 'nick' and 'pager' the 'nick' is the only one I should be using, because the 'pager' is a vibration, which is way too much for a dog. A vibration to a dog is like en electric shock to us. So I asked why it was even there. He told me that some people use the electric collars wrong, and that's why theyre illegal in some places, the 'pager' is such a strong feeling for a dog it should only be used if you want to torture your dog, or unless he's about to run into traffic and there is no other way of stopping your dog and getting hit by a car. But at the end of the training, he won't run into traffic. So now, given all that information, what do all of you naive people think of using an electric collar the right way?To bug him when he has a sock, or even a piece of chocolate just like poking a human being on the shoulder. Not torturing him and frying his brain.
Where to find cheap non-choke chain dog collars?
For Halloween, I was going to dress up as a gothic red riding hood and sit outside with my " wolf" . I have a husky Agouti coloring and he really looks like a wolf. We have a chain leash because he used to chew on his old leash. To make him look more wild, I was going to put a chain or spiked collar on him, however the only chain collars I can find are choke collars, which I know are bad for dogs. I'm most likely only going to use this once, so I would like it to be cheap. Thank you

Heavy duty "fashionable" dog collars?

Completely waterproof flashing dog collars UK?
