What brands of dog food do I feed my dog? Should I feed him wet or dry food?
I adopted a dog and have had him for about three weeks. He's the most perfect dog I could imagine. The vet says he's healthy, but could gain a few pounds. I forgot to ask what kind of dog food I should feed him though. Since we've got him, he's been eating Beneful and Canine Carry outs Beef Flavored Dog Snacks as treats for training. He seems to like it, but I don't think that's the best kind of food for gaining weight. The people at the adoption recommended canned food, but there's soooo many brands, I have no idea which one to chose They think my dog is a min pin Manchester Terrier mix. Should I do I combination of both dry and wet canned food, like one day feed him wet food, then the next day dry food? What brand is best? Are there some hazards about curtain brands I should know about?

My dog has had problems with yeast for a longtime. I'm assuming the problems started because she was fed a cheap insuficient dogfood for a few years. When the problems first started, my family and I had no idea what was going on until my grandmother and I took her to the vet. He said shes allergic to corn and should be on a lamb & rice diet. He also gave us some ear cleaner and pills to get rid of the yeast. I used as directed & the problems were gone When I moved to live with my mom she started having the issues again... I'm guessing part of it was because she wouldn't get the right dog food because it was " too expensive" & " they don't have it here" both of which are wrong & to be honest my mom is a cheapskate & everybody knows it & the other part because her ear cleaner and pills ran out. So I showed her that it WAS infact there & wasn't really too expensive. I think it was $20 something for a 20lb bag. Then I found out that dog food had caused some dogs to die. I don't really know if this is true but I stopped using it anyway My stepbrother then gave us a bag of blackgold dogfood he feeds his coonhounds. Said it was grain free. Sadly her simptoms didn't change... Now that I've moved back with my dad who doesn't mind so much to buy her what she needs she is on Taste of The Wild brand dogfood. I read the ingredients & potatoes is one of them which I just found out dogs with yeast infections aren't suppose to have... I'm tired of going in circles with these dogfood brands. I figure I mine as well just make the poor girl her food so I can be sure she is getting the right nutrition. It would probably taste a heck of alot better too. I've done some research on the internet and haven't really found anything helpful as far as a homemade dog food recipe for dogs with YEAST problems. We've gone through some tough times recently and don't have the money right now to take her to the vet again & I'd rather not wait a few weeks until we do. I want her to be better asap. So if you know of any recipes that don't have foods in it not good for dogs with yeast problems PLZ let me know. & plz keep it under $30 a week for ingredients. Thankyou so much for your help

How do I get my dog BACK to eating dog food?
I have cats & a dog & for a while my mom was only buying cat food for some reason. I didn't like the idea and I buy dog food for him now but he won't really eat it. I don't know if he's use to cat food now or what but I want to get him in the habit of eating dog food again. I'm talking about dry food, the cans he will eat but I can't ALWAYS feed one of those to him . So can anyone help me figure out how to get him to eat real dog food ?I forgot to mention.. the cats and dog all eat in the kitchen together & there's not really a way to separate them. I have to leave the cat food out because they come in and out all day and we're not home a lot, and the dog food stays there.

Has anyone ever heard of Rocco wet dog food (70% meat content)?
Currently we get 400g tins of supermarket own brand stuff for our 3.5 year old Yorkie and that's only a few % meat it says minimum 4 % meat with cereals and sugar etc.The Rocco stuff is also comes in 400g tins or 800g and is 70 % meat and innards , no cereals or sugars of artificial additives or preservatives etc. In the wild dogs would eat both meat and innards. What do you think, sounds ok or not? I know the dry food v wet food argument so no need to rehash that. P We do well technically my wife does clean her teeth regularly enough Tried dry food simple fact is she won't eat it, sure we could simply leave it there until she does, when she's hungry enough but why, she obviously doesn't like it so we feed her something she does like. But we're going to make sure that that something she does like is a little healthier for her then just 4 % meat, that's why 70 % meat sounds better.

Time to switch dog food,Natural Balance Recall?
I have a 14 month old 95lb doberman who is the picture of health, shiny coat energetic etc. He has been on Natural Balance Sweet Potato and Venison since 5 months because of diarrhea due to chicken and turkey intolerance. I am looking to switch his food for 2 reasons 1 because even though his lot number is not on recall I believe anything in that factory could be contaminated.I feel as though I am taking a chance every time I feed Natural Balance. 2nd reason is I would like to find something with more meat and less veg. in the first 5 ingredients. He is temporarily on California Natural Venison Grain Free but that has only venison meal listed once in top 5. An ideal food for him would be Poultry FreeGrain Free or little grain he had a reaction to Natural Balance Lamb and Rice Beef, venison, fish meal or meat listed at least twice in first 5 ingredients.Contains probiotics.Absolutely no by products.Omega 3 and 6 would be a plus. Does such a food exist? Serious suggestions of high quality food only please.I have been reading many labels on line and consider asking yahoo comunity part of my Research.This is how I found Natural Balance when he had tummy problems .In my opinion asking someone who is using a food is more informative than any label.Thank You to all who realize this and are willing to share their experience with the many foods out there. We help each other to make things easier on our pets as switching a food is not something that should be done often in the best interest of the dog.
