Question: Which dog breeds do you think may be banned next?

Just out of interest as there was stuff on the news about banning a few more breeds of dogs. i think maybe staffordshire bull terriers, mainly because of their use as a status symbol.

Which ever breed people choose to direct their prejudicial attitudes at next... who knows it could be a poodle, you can never predict which way ignorance is going to go next.

I think teacup dogs and "designer " breeds should be banned next But more importantly, I think 80% of the population should be banned from ever owning a dog...we can start with 80% of the Y/ A Dog Section population

It's not the dogs that need banning it's the idiot owners. Any medium to large dog can be trained to attack. Where do you draw the line?

I don't think any dogs will/ should be banned.It's the bloody owners need banning.Staffordshire Bull Terriers are very sweet family dogs as are Rottweilers(I own neither breed) Just this morning my German Shepherd was attacked by some small fluffy dog and he done nothing to deserve it.The owner laughed,I thought you won't be laughing if I let my dog off the lead.The fluffy thing bit my dog on the backside and only then did he snarl,but what if he hadn't been on alead the injuries he could have caused the fluffy thing could have been fatal and then I and my dog would have gotten the blame not fluffy and his stupid owner.

They won't ban German sheperds because there used for the police I think they will ban staffordhire bull terrers but I love staffs and know so many that get along with my sheperd x and are great with kids it's the stupid people who breed them for fighting.

Lets see. They've already tried to ban akita's, doberman pincher's, german shepherd's, rottweilers, pit bulls...none of those bans or almost bans ever worked....how bout they ban bad owners!! And make it illegal to breed without a license! That could help.

They should not ban any breed but ban bad owners. I have a Staffie that has never shown any aggression to humans or any other animal. He has been attacked three times once by a Jack russell ,once by a West Highland terrier and once by a German Shepherd.All three were undisciplined and the owners struggled to control them. At no time did my dog retaliate ,he just hid behind me and whimpered,but all three owners blamed him even though their dogs attacked and all three dogs are known in the neighbourhood for their viciousness towards other animals.Staffies have an undeserved bad reputation.

They need to make a test, or something, that will weed out owners who aren't responsible or can't handle a dog. They shouldn't be banning dog breeds in the first place.

We've had breed specific legislation for 19 years now and it's failed, miserably to keep the public safe. So if the government act in a manner that is best for the British public - the answer should be "no more breeds should be banned ". However, our current government has been in power for the last 13 years now and it's failed, miserably to act in a manner that is best for the British public. With that in mind - who knows??

Dogs shouldn't be banned it's the owners fault for ignoring their dogs needs and not training them properly, I'm starting to think that owners should get a license to own a dog as its not fair for the dog to be put down because the owners neglection. Why is there always something to complain about?

No dogs are going to be banned next - even the government has realised that BSL does not work. Instead ALL dog owners are going to be penalised by having to pay insurance (or that's the latest daft plan)

I am a widow and a pensioner ,I have got a 6 yr old staffie,she is speyed,she is gentle,I cant afford insurance,she is my best friend,my only option would be to have her destroyed,I dont want to live without her

I hope German Shepherds don't get banned, i've got one and he wouldn't hurt anybody. although every dog can bite and cause harm to a person. the problem is not the dogs but the owners, if you read about these people who own pitbulls for the status and for using as a weapon, they make them that way by tormenting them, and beating them until they snap. they should not be banning the dogs, they should be banning the idiots from owning them in the first place. any dog can be used as a weapon in the wrong hands, just the same as any dog can be a good family pet in the right hands. it's not the dogs fault. so instead of these poor dogs being put down because they have become vicious, just ban these people from owning them full stop. if there is ever a case of a dog owner being founf guilty of cruelty they are banned from owning a dog ever again, so they should do the same with these idiots.
