What are good watch/guard dog breeds?
we are in need of a good watchdog that could potentially protect me and my family if needed. we live in a pretty upscale neighborhood and though robberies aren't very common, we would rather be safe than sorry.we have a chihuahua terrier mix puppy, so it is essential for our new dog to get along with other dogs and for it to be a good family dog.can anyone help me out a bit?we DO have an alarm system.we have been wanting another dog and it being a watchdog will be a huge plus.

I'm not really looking for a dog right now but I am planning for one, I thought I might do a bit of research first or what not. Alot of people are against outdoor dogs, but I was wondering, if a dog had a shed and alot of attention and taken care of properly, would it be Ok ? Outdoor large guard dog breed; doberman? What're some other breeds?
I love the doberman, they're gorgeous in all ways, but I'm unsure of getting one because of the health problems and lack of body fat though I really like a breed that is smooth like a dobie but a bit more able to deal with cold perhaps? It would be an outdoor dog living on 4 acres fenced pastures and one big fenced front yard . It could sleep in the barn, maybe the house or sunroom, but I want it to be a watchdog for the property not just the house.I'm looking for a medium to large dog breed that can tolerate heat really well I dont expect to have it stay out in 90 degree weather of course and is a guard dog type. I prefer the sleek shaped dogs with short hair because shedding can be a real pain and it would get dirty real fast. Like I don't want a rottie because they look chunky, have some folds, and from what I hear they aren't really athletic.Also I have deer and raccoons and a couple of barn cats that are accustomed to staying up in the rafters of the barn, so I would prefer it to be able to be trained to accept cats but chase off deer and raccoons.
Will a calm gentle non guard dog breed attack a person trying to hurt their family if needed or theyre cowards?
Like a Golden Retriever,Labrador Retriever,Saint Bernard,Bloodhound,Irish Wolfhounds and other calm gentle dog breeds. They are big and can hurt someone if they want to. If they see a stranger attack a child of their family would they react to that person or are they just cowards?

Guard dog breed in a flat?
hi i have recently moved into a ground floor flat with access to a communal garden, i have loads of experince with dogs and have even done some work experince in a kennels, i was wondering what everyone thought on me getting a guard breed in a flat i haven't decided onw hat breed yet any suggestions? i work under 16 hours a week so won't be away from home too much but i would like a good guard protecting breed so i feel safe when im home as i do live on my own. do you thinkt his would be ok? and any suggestions on what breed i should get? thanks.
