I am looking at getting a puppy to train as my next service dog. My current service dog is 7 years old and is a lab shep mix my family rescued when she was little. Her main job right now is medical alert she alerts to my blood sugar levels, and she does balance support when I need it eg when my blood sugar gets either too high or low, and I need help getting up from either a chair or the ground I have been looking at several different breeds for a little while and have narrowed it down to a handful of breeds with preferred genders for each breed. Vizsla male German Shorthaired pointer male German Shepherd female Belgian Malinois male Rottweiler female I would like a dog that is taller than it is heavy tall and skinny because I need a dog that will be able to lay on my legs while I am laying down with out crushing them. I am able to walk and jog also the dog will be able to swim so exercise wouldn't be a problem. I need a dog that I can do sent work easy with. And I need a dog that will be able to provide minor balance support for me eg helping me get up of the ground, or from a chair I am 5'10 150lbs.If you have experience with any of these breeds I would love to hear you input if the breed would be able to dog what I need, and or would the breed make a good service dog in general. I would like to try to stay away from Labs and goldens. I know they are great dogs for this type of work, but personally I would like to try a new breed, as I have always had labs.
