Question: No headphone jack on tv (xbox question)?

I've recently really got into gaming and it's become apparent to me that to get the most out of the experience using a set of headphones will allow you to hear better and be more aware (such as being able to hear the footsteps on enemies on mw2). Well here's my problem, my tv has no headphone jack! What I did was I bought a RCA to female headphone jack (i'll put the link to the exact cable at the end) thinking that if I plugged them into the audio out on my tv (i'll also include a link to that) and then connected the headphones the sound would play through that, however it's not the case. It's become obvious to me now that the reason for this is that they are on different channels. My xbox uses my HDMI channel and a use a HDMI cable to connect it, rendering my RCA to headphone jack useless (as it will connect to the component or SCART channels). The thing is, people report this method working, so am I doing something wrong? Is there any way for me to get my HD quality picture and still use my audio- out sockets to play sound through my headphones? I understand this is a big question but I would REALLY appreciate a response. Thanks a lot! Thats weird.....i have a toshiba LCD with no headphone jack, so i did just what you did, RCA to female jack to headphones and i have no issues...i am also hooked up using HDMI. there might be something in the settings of your TV (i know my toshiba has an audio out setting on it that can be turned on/ off). check that. pretty much the only other thing you can do is buy the HDMI kit from MS...this will give you RCA and optical audio outputs from your Xbox...it plugs into the larger port below the HDMI port and has the 3 outputs....the kit is like $50 so i would check your TV settings first. should be under audio settings. hope everything works out for you. also your BEST bet is to get a 5 or 7 channel surround sound system as the headphones will be great for hearing people walking around, but you really cant tell if they are in front or behind you...just to the left/ right of you...with the surround sound, you will know exactly where they are. plus the surround sound is awesome for movies and such :)
